Quick Breakfast Shake for Goalies On The Go

Maria-Mountain-300x185If you find that you are skipping breakfast, your mid-morning or post-workout snack, then this is exactly what you are looking for: A meal with quality protein and carbohydrates that you can prepare in  three minutes and take with you.

The recipe is simple:

– 1/3 plain (not flavoured) yogurt

– 1 scoop of protein/carbohydrate powder. I like to use Vega One since it does not have artificial sweeteners or flavours. My favourites are the unflavoured and the Chocolate.  The vanilla one is too sweet for my liking.

– 1/3 frozen fruit

– Top up with some orange juice

– Smash it all in the Magic Bullet blender

In the video I show you exactly how to do it:

You know how some protein shakes get really gross and gelatin-y if you don’t drink them right away?

This one seems immune to that. I often make it in the morning, but then take it to the gym with me in thermos cup and don’t drink it until about 9 a.m  (about four hours after I make it), and it still tastes delicious.

Hope it helps you keep the tank full so you can dominate in the gym and on the ice.

Happy training!

Any ideas for a substitute for the yogurt? It and cottage cheese both are absolutely disgusting to me.

My guess is that the yogurt helps thicken the shake up. I would think that almond milk (vanilla unsweetened is my favorite) would be a decent alternative since it’s thicker than milk.
