Thomas Magnusson | In this Episode of the InGoal Radio Podcast presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports , we’re joined by the man we call the Godfather of Swedish Goaltending, Thomas Magnusson, who is the Head of Goaltending for the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation. While goaltending coaching is ubiquitous in top teams now, he was the first in the Swedish Pro leagues, even pre-dating Francois Allaire in the NHL. Magnusson led the charge as Sweden remade their program with the key strategy of coaching the coaches and continues down this path with 250 certified coaches now and a regular program of professional development to support them. We also spoke at length about recent research in Sweden into hip and groin injuries in goaltending and some potential practice and equipment changes to help mitigate this growing problem in goaltenders.
