InGoal Radio Feature Interview: Mathieu Garon (Video)

Once again we bring our Members an early release on video of next week’s feature interview for InGoal Radio.

Mathieu Garon played 341 NHL games between 2000-2001, when he played 11 games for his “hometown” Montreal Canadiens, and his final season in 2012-13 with the Tampa Bay Lightning. In between he spent time in Edmonton, Pittsburgh (winning the Stanley Cup as backup to Marc-Andre Fleury), Los Angeles and Columbus. This wide-ranging interview covers his beginnings in net, his career, life as a “full-right” goaltender, a stop in the KHL, being released by an NHL team that didn’t want two full-right goalies on the roster and his work now back in Tampa.

Goali Grandpa here fellas!
Did you know Mathieu Garon was considered the shootout specialist in Edmonton? 2007-08, 2008-09 he was the backup to Dwayne Roleson. He was much better at the shootout and was put in for virtually every shootout situation in those years. I believe he had an excellent record.

Great to have goalie grandpas – welcome. I wasn’t aware of him being put in for shootouts specifically…but KEvin mentioned in the interview his incredible success one season…great stuff.
