Off-Ice with Maria Mountain: How Goalies Beat the Pass and Training to Do It Yourself
Maria Mountain from Goalie Training Pro returns this week to talk about an important topic for all goalies β speed β and how to build it properly by training your outer range power.
Maria has been an incredible resource for goalie-specific training ever since we got started here at InGoal, and has gone on to train NHL goalies like Carter Hutton, spend time with NHL teams like the Buffalo Sabres, and been invited all over the world to work with goalies and speak and goaltending conferences and symposiums, so weβre beyond thrilled to have her back again to share exclusive advice for our Premium Members. If you havenβt already checked out her tips on how to train off the ice for better puck handling on it, make sure you watch the video.
This time, Maria takes a closer look at developing outer range power, which allows goalies to move laterally with speed without taking the extra time to load up a full push. She shares four new drills and progressions, working from the knees and standing, using resistance bands and a do-it-yourself slide board to add variety and options to the exercises. As usual, Maria adds keys (like using her stick at one point) to keep it position specific, so pay attention throughout:
Still ahead in this article:
The exact off-ice drill Maria uses to build that outer range power β and the cue she gives goalies to feel the difference immediately β comes next.
