Carey Price demonstrates off-ice dynamic warm-up exercises in a red training facility setting.

Carey Price Teaches a Dynamic Warm Up

Key Takeaways
  • Carey Price performs a dynamic warm up before every game and practice, consisting of movement-based stretches rather than static holds.
  • Foam rolling is a key part of Price's pre-game preparation, which he performs in the Montreal Canadiens locker room before taking the ice.
  • Price has taught this warm up routine to young goalies at Eli Wilson Goaltending's annual Day with Price camp since 2015.
  • Goalie fitness specialist Maria Mountain also leads a dynamic warm up at the camp, bringing goalie-specific training expertise to complement Price's routine.
  • Mountain's free 14-day butterfly challenge app includes foam rolling and foot rolling exercises consistent with techniques observed in Price's own warm up.

Going behind the scenes (and taking you with us) as Carey Price interacts with young goalies at Eli Wilson Goaltending’s annual Day with Price Camp for the past five years has been one of our favorite things we do at InGoal Magazine, but we’ve been so focused on sharing on-ice tips, equipment overviews and Q-and-A sessions in the locker room that we almost forgot a key part.

Each year, before the first of two on-ice sessions, Price walks the goalies through his dynamic warm up, a series of movements and stretches he uses to get ready to play. Having seen this every year since 2015, when the warm up occurred outside in the warm Kelowna sunshine, we figured it was about time we shared Price’s dynamic warm up routine with you.

“These are just some of the things I like to do before a game, before practice,” Price said.

We’ll start with a start-to-finish look we captured in 2018:
