When does nutrition matter?
- Performance nutrition matters most starting at ages 14-16, when young goaltenders begin sport-specific training at higher intensity.
- Basic nutrition matters at every age, but eating with a performance purpose is the key shift young athletes need to make.
- Jamie Phillips recommends prepping meals the night before early road trips to avoid relying on gas station food.
- Nutrition and off-ice training should be science-backed and integrated together for optimal athletic development.
- Phillips Sports Performance offers free recipes and programming resources designed specifically for athletes.

When does nutrition matter? Simple, all ages. Eating healthy is a lifelong journey. From the time you are born until the day you die, your body takes nutrients from food and turns it into energy to move and keep you alive or to create or repair the cells which make up your body.
The real question that you the reader should be asking is, “when does performance nutrition matter?”
