Pro Drills with Kristen Campbell
- Start every butterfly push across by getting your eyes and head down on the puck first — this drives proper shoulder and torso rotation.
- Drive with the backside hand and punch with the outside shoulder to ensure full rotation when sliding across the crease.
- Set and stop completely on the puck before taking the shot, using your lead edge to square up and control your body position.
- Keep hips back during chest saves and focus on cradling and absorbing each puck rather than just blocking it.
- Simple repetition drills with real pucks build edge control and body control before adding shooters and complex movements.
Our Pro Drills series with Kristen Campbell of the Toronto Sceptres of the PWHL has so far focused on a series of warm-up movements and drills that includes making visualized saves with your eyes closed. Part 4 adds real pucks and a simple and quick — but important — lesson on the importance of rotation and control when moving in the butterfly.
