THE SCENARIO AND SAVE
Woll is facing an in-zone sequence against the Seattle Kraken, but since there isn’t really one camera angle that allows us to capture all the key elements in a single freeze frame to analyze and discuss, we’re going to go straight to the video this week. As you watch it, however, see how early in the sequence you can identify the primary threat:
How soon were you able to spot the pass option emerging from Woll’s right? It’s probably given away in the headline, but did you see why he was able to do the same?
Now for Woll’s push across once the pass is made: Did you like that he slid? If it was you, would you prefer to come across on your skates, at least with the initial push, or would you slide?
Once the shooter pulls it back into the middle, what allows Woll to regain his center net?

- Woll breaks down his save on an in-zone passing sequence against the Seattle Kraken, walking through how he tracked the primary threat before the pass was made.
- Woll identifies three specific moments when goalies can safely scan the zone: when the puck is being rimmed, when it's being dumped in, and when the puck carrier's eyes are not on the net.
- Woll explains that early zone reads shift saves from desperation reactions to proactive positioning — 'a lot of saves happen before the puck gets to the guy.'
