Dustin Wolf is one of the best young goalies in the game and an informative delight in these video breakdowns, so we’re going back to the Calgary Flames star for the second time in the past three weeks for another Pro Reads.
THE SEQUENCE
This time we’re looking at an in-zone chance against the Tampa Bay Lightning after a turnover along the left boards creates a 2-on-1 with flow in zone:
Seeing the freeze frame above, what are the threats Wolf needs to be most mindful of as that puck is pulled off the boards by Brandon Hagel and into the middle? What information matters the most about both the shooting and pass options?
We give away that a pass followed with this second freeze frame, but as Wolf comes across to Anthony Cirelli after he receives it, what do you notice about the way Wolf has positioned himself relative to the new shooting threat?
What factors can you see that might lead to him staying a little flat to the goal line rather than full squaring up on Cirelli as soon as he arrives to his next spot?
