Episode 259 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features Detroit Red Wings head of goaltending scouting and development Phil Osaer.
In the feature interview presented by NHL Sense Arena, Osaer sat down with InGoal during the USA Hockey National Goaltending Symposium and delivered what is basically a State of the Position address from the youth levels to the NHL, tapping into his experiences since retiring from a 12 year pro career in North America and Europe and moving into the management side of the game. That includes everything from being a director of hockey operations in the NCAA to goalie coaching in the USHL, goalie scouting for the Tampa Bay Lighting, working with the Red Wings since 2019, and perhaps most relevant to this conversation, being USA Hockey’s first goaltending development manager and helping to create the first goalie coach development program and 51 in 30 initiative.
