Joey Daccord was a part of the USA winning its first World Championship in 92 years on Sunday — the last American win in the event was in 1933 — after being voted Seattle Kraken MVP this season, giving us a great excuse to go back to him for another Pro Reads entry.
Not that we needed any reason beyond the fact Daccord is so good in this format, first sharing his play-reading insights while with the Ottawa Senators in 2021 before re-joining us for an in-person video session just before training camp this season.
THE SEQUENCE
This time Daccord is dealing with a quick regroup by the Minnesota Wild that leads to a 4-on-3 rush with sagging defensemen and a couple of high-end finishers as passing options:
Looking at the scenario above, what are the primary threats?
Is the puck carrier, defenseman Jonas Brodin, a shooting threat? Why or why not?
What factors matter the most about his two passing options, Marco Rossi in the middle lane and Kirill Kaprizov coming in down the right wing?
Given all that information, what do you make of Daccord’s depth here?

Great Read from Joey, his intuitiveness to use Angle over Depth after realizing the pass wasn’t going to Rossi was key to this save, that and staying on his feet as long as possible.
