Carl Axelsson is a goaltender selected by the Utah Mammoth in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 2026 NHL Draft — the only Swedish goaltender chosen in the entire draft, and one chasing a family connection. His father, Niklas, was a goaltender at the University of Minnesota Duluth, and Carl has committed to follow him into the same crease: "It's been my dream school since I was a kid because my dad played there," he said. "It was no question."

Born November 21, 2006 in Danderyd, just outside Stockholm, the 6-foot-4 netminder won a Swedish junior national title with Skellefteå before crossing the Atlantic in 2024. After a rough first landing in the USHL he rebuilt his game in the NAHL — 14-4-1 with a 1.74 goals-against average and six shutouts — then broke out for the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks in 2025-26, going 28-14-1 with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage and earning USHL Goaltender of the Week honours three times.

Muskegon coach Casey Mignone called him "a rock for us back there — he makes all the saves we need him to make and then makes one or two extra."

This page gathers Axelsson's numbers, measurements, and draft details in one place. InGoal Magazine will expand its coverage as his career develops.
