Evgeni Nabokov was born on July 25, 1975, in Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan — a long way from the NHL city where he would spend the majority of his professional career. Selected by the San Jose Sharks in the ninth round of the 1994 draft, 11th pick of that round, Nabokov went on to play 697 NHL games, recording 353 wins, 227 losses, 57 overtime losses, a 2.44 goals-against average, a .911 save percentage, and 59 shutouts across his career. He also suited up for the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning during his NHL tenure, and played in Russia's top leagues for Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk, Dynamo Moscow, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, and SKA Saint Petersburg before and after his time in North America.
