Frédéric Chabot was born on February 12, 1968, in Hébertville-Station, Quebec, and was selected by a NHL club in the 10th round, 3rd pick, of the 1986 draft. The right-catching goaltender stood 5'11" and weighed 187 pounds during his playing days.

Chabot's NHL career spanned parts of five seasons, with appearances for the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, and Los Angeles Kings between 1991 and 1999. Across 32 NHL games, he recorded 4 wins, 8 losses, a 2.95 goals-against average, and a .894 save percentage. The bulk of his professional playing career, which ran from 1989 to 2006, was spent in the minor leagues and in Europe before he transitioned into coaching.
