Jussi Markkanen
Jussi Markkanen was born on May 8, 1975, in Imatra, Finland, and came to the NHL by an unconventional route. Selected 133rd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the fifth round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, he entered the process as an over-age prospect β already 26 years old β after building his career across European professional leagues.
Standing 6'0" and weighing 182 pounds, the left-catching goaltender appeared in 128 NHL games, recording 43 wins, 47 losses, and 7 overtime decisions. He posted a career goals-against average of 2.70 and a save percentage of .901, adding 7 shutouts over the course of his NHL tenure.
After his playing career concluded, Markkanen moved into hockey management. He currently serves as general manager of SaiPa in Finland.
