Matt Underhill
Matt Underhill's path to the NHL ran through Ithaca, New York and the Cornell University program, before arriving at a single appearance in a Chicago Blackhawks uniform during the 2003β04 season. Born September 16, 1979, in Campbell River, British Columbia, the left-catching netminder stood 6'2" and weighed 220 pounds.
The Calgary Flames selected Underhill in the sixth round of the 1999 NHL Draft, 13th pick of that round. His NHL career amounted to one game played, one loss, and a goals-against average of 3.95 with a save percentage of .879 β the entirety of his top-level record. The balance of his professional playing career, which ran from 2002 to 2006, took place in the minor leagues.
His collegiate career earned lasting recognition: Underhill was inducted into the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame on November 3, 2012. After his playing days, he moved into coaching, working as a hockey coach at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire.
