Mike Bales was born on August 6, 1971, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. A left-catching goaltender listed at 6'1" and 180 pounds, he was selected by Boston in the fifth round of the 1990 NHL Draft, 21st pick of the round.
Bales appeared in 23 NHL games across four seasons, from 1992 to 1997, splitting time between the Boston Bruins and the Ottawa Senators. Following his playing career, he moved into coaching and currently serves as goaltending coach for the NHL's Buffalo Sabres.
