Niklas Backstrom was born in Helsinki, Finland, on February 13, 1978, and went on to spend a decade in the National Hockey League as a left-catching goaltender, playing for the Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames. Standing 6'2" and weighing 192 pounds, he wore number 32 across an NHL career that produced 413 games played, 196 wins, 144 losses, 50 overtime losses, a 2.49 goals-against average, a .914 save percentage, and 28 shutouts. Among the individual honors he collected were the William M. Jennings Trophy and the Roger Crozier Saving Grace Award. Since retiring as a player, he has moved into coaching, serving as a goaltending coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
