Rick DiPietro
Rick DiPietro, born September 19, 1981, in Winthrop, Massachusetts, became the first overall pick in the 2000 NHL Draft — the first goaltender selected first overall in NHL history. A right-catching netminder standing 6'0" and weighing 185 pounds, DiPietro was taken by the New York Islanders and wore number 39 throughout his NHL career.
Over 318 regular-season games, DiPietro recorded 130 wins, 136 losses, and 28 overtime losses, with a career goals-against average of 2.87, a save percentage of .902, and 16 shutouts. His career was marked by a series of significant injuries that limited his availability across multiple seasons.
After his playing career, DiPietro moved into broadcasting. He co-hosts "DiPietro and Rothenberg" with Dave Rothenberg on ESPN New York and has served as an analyst on NHL telecasts on ESPN, a role he took on beginning with the 2021–22 season.
InGoal Magazine has not previously published articles on DiPietro.
