Ryder Fetterolf is a goaltender selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round (125th overall) of the 2026 NHL Draft — and the reigning CHL Goaltender of the Year. Born January 5, 2008 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, in suburban Pittsburgh, the netminder catches with his left hand and came up through the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite program and Ohio's Gilmour Academy prep.
He reached the OHL the hard way — signing with the Ottawa 67's as an undrafted free agent in the summer of 2025 — then turned in a trophy-sweep rookie season: the Jim Rutherford Trophy (OHL Goaltender of the Year), the Dinty Moore Trophy and CHL Goaltender of the Year. He went 29-9-2 with a franchise-record 2.07 goals-against average, a league-best .923 save percentage and six shutouts — an OHL all-time rookie record. He's the first American to win the Jim Rutherford Trophy since Alex Nedeljkovic, himself a former Carolina goaltender.
NHL Central Scouting ranked him 11th among North American goaltenders, and he keeps both doors open — committed to Penn State while playing major junior, an early example of the new CHL-to-NCAA era.
