Stepan Shurygin is a goaltender selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2026 NHL Draft. Born August 26, 2007 in Samara, the 6-foot-4 Russian netminder β one of the biggest goaltenders in the class β catches with his left hand and came up through Khimik Voskresensk before establishing himself as a starter in Russia's MHL with Molot Perm.
For 2025-26 he crossed the ocean as an import, chosen by the OHL's Saginaw Spirit in the CHL Import Draft β the franchise's first Russian-born goaltender since Ivan Prosvetov, who went on to the NHL. He became a true workhorse, leading every OHL goaltender in appearances, minutes and saves while winning 24 games for a rebuilding club. By advanced measures he was one of the league's best, ranking third among OHL goalies in goals saved above expected.
Left off Central Scouting's preliminary list, he played his way up the board β to No. 16 at midterm and No. 13 among North American goaltenders on the final rankings. InGoal Magazine will expand its coverage as his career develops.
