What’s the perfect length for toe ties? Canucks No.1 @tdemko30 has it down to a science based on the circumference of the post because he believes it’s so important to his crease movements, but don’t worry, we do the math for you in our latest Pro Tips/Pro Gear article, live now at InGoalMag.com (and featuring a video of Demko doing those crease movement patterns).
Ryan Miller may have retired this summer after a remarkable 18-season career, but we weren’t going to waste a chance to pick his considerable puck-stopping brain for Pro Reads. This is the 1st of many video breakdowns with NHL’s winningest American goalie.
We’ve talked a lot about prioritizing angle over depth in recent Pro Drills and Pro Tips but is there ever a time depth comes first? Philadelphia Flyers goalie development coach Brady Robinson outlined one for an article, complete with video of 2 drills highlighting it.
InGoal Radio Podcast presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports
Episode 135 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a lengthy interview with Vancouver Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko.
In the feature interview, presented by Sense Arena, may be our most in-depth yet, as Demko digs into the specific technical changes he has made over the past three seasons since he began working with Canucks goaltending coach Ian Clark. From how he moves on the ice, to the way he plays on his posts, to the pace he's added (and why) and the off-ice work required in the offseason to get into some of those new positions and techniques, Demko breaks it all down in great detail. He also talks about his evolving mindset, and the role it played in his 2020 playoff bubble breakthrough, important lessons from Jacob Markstrom two seasons ago and Braden Holtby last season, and how he's prepared for what is to come: His first full season as a No. 1, playing in front of fans again, the Canucks radical makeover and push for the playoffs, and hopefully a spot on Team USA for the 2022 Olympics.
All that, plus a trip back to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a breakdown at the new, incredibly light True Catalyst AX9 (and second price point AX5) sticks.
