We are committed to protecting the privacy and personal information of our visitors, members, and community. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and what rights you have over your data.
This policy is guided by the principles of British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), where applicable.

What Personal Information We Collect
We collect different types of personal information depending on how you interact with our site:
Membership & Account Information
When you create an InGoal account or subscribe, we collect your name, email address, and payment information. Payment details (credit card numbers) are processed and stored by our payment processor, Stripe, and are not stored on our servers. We also collect your mailing address and demographic information where provided, to help us deliver relevant content and improve your experience.
Comments
Commenting on InGoal requires a logged-in membership account. When members post comments, we collect the content of the comment along with your IP address and browser user agent string for security and moderation purposes. Comments are subject to our Commenting Policy.
Contact Forms
When you submit a message through our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message. This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not use contact form submissions for marketing purposes unless you provide separate, explicit consent.
Website Usage Data
We use analytics tools to understand how visitors use our site. This may include your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring URLs. See the Analytics section below for details.
Internal Site Search
When you use the search function on our site, we log the search query, the number of results found, and the date and time of the search. For logged-in members, your user ID is also recorded. This data helps us understand what content our community is looking for and improve our site accordingly. Search logs are automatically purged after 90 days.
Cookies
If you visit our login page, a temporary cookie is set to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, we set cookies to save your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last two days, and screen option cookies last one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps your login active for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.
How We Use Your Information
We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:
- To manage your membership, process payments, and provide access to premium content
- To send transactional emails related to your account, such as subscription confirmations, payment receipts, password resets, and membership notifications
- To send marketing communications, such as newsletters and content updates, where you have opted in to receive them. You may unsubscribe at any time by following the instructions in those messages or contacting us directly

- To monitor and improve our website, content, and member experience

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email for security purposes.

We use trusted third-party services to operate our website, process payments, send communications, and protect our site. Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid including images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website may be able to download and extract location data from images on the site.
Embedded Content
Articles on our site may include embedded content from other websites, such as videos, images, or social media posts. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if you had visited those websites directly. These external sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, particularly if you have an account and are logged in to those services.
How Long We Retain Your Data
We retain personal information only for as long as it is needed to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law.
- Comments: Comment content and associated metadata are retained for as long as the comment remains published on the site, to enable ongoing community discussion
- Account information: Your membership and account data is retained for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for administrative and legal purposes
- Payment records: Transaction records are retained as required by Canadian tax law
- Contact form submissions: Retained for as long as necessary to respond to your inquiry, then deleted
- Analytics data: Aggregated and anonymized analytics data may be retained indefinitely
When personal information is no longer needed, we will securely delete or anonymize it.
How We Protect Your Information
We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encrypted connections (SSL/TLS) across our website, secure hosting infrastructure, access controls limiting who can view personal data, and security services including Cloudflare for protection against malicious traffic and attacks.
While we take reasonable precautions, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Under BC’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of any inaccurate or incomplete personal information

- File a complaint with us or with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia if you believe your privacy rights have been violated

Children’s Privacy
InGoal Magazine is a community resource enjoyed by goaltenders, parents, and coaches of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Memberships are purchased by adults, and we encourage parents and guardians to supervise any use of our site by minors. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our service providers, or applicable laws. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify members by email or by posting a notice on the site. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
