Shots on Goal: Beanpot Tournament-BC’s Muse vs BU’s Milan

The game of the night that everyone was waiting for between perennial powerhouses BC and BU was next up and did not disappoint as the #1 ranked BC Eagles snatched a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over the #14 ranked Terriers.

John Muse

Senior goalie John Muse, last years tournament MVP, recorded his 17th victory on the season and the teams 20th (20-6-0) , with a 34 save effort.

Muse saved his best for last with the teams tied 2-2 and time winding down in the third period, BU had a man advantage for almost four minutes and couldn’t put one in the back of the net.

Muse’s Beanpot record improves to 6-1 as his Eagles head into the Championship game against Chris Rawlings and his Northeastern Huskies next Monday.

Kieren Milan

Milan, 37 saves, gets the hard luck loser award for the game as all three goals scored against him came off deflections of his own teammates.

The heart breaker came at 3:17 in the overtime period when BC’s Tommy Cross  sent a shot towards the net that grazed a BU players skate and redirected the puck past Milan.

This is just the third time in the last 28 years that BU has not advanced to the title game. BU will face Harvard in the consolation game next Monday afternoon.

Scary close call for

Scary close call for Winnipeg Jets Connor Hellebuyck as teammate’s stick blade got through his cage + cut him near eye; interestingly amid the debate about cat-eye cages, which are banned in Canada, the blade actually appears to go in under the lower bar of the cat-eye opening. Frankly it’s hard to see why that gap, which does nothing to help vision, needs to be big enough for a blade to get through, as unlikely as this incident might be.
