NHL and NWHL Goaltenders Share Self-Talk Keys
InGoal Magazine writer Kevin Woodley also writes a weekly column called Unmasked on NHL.com and this week’s focus was on self-talk and the various types that NHL goaltenders use during a game, whether it’s to stay focused or stay positive.
The Unmasked column is focused on a broader audience, however, and is often more focused on educating and enlightening non-goaltenders about some of the intricacies or rituals of the position. Add in a word count limit, and a lot of the finer position-specific details of extended interviews get left on the cutting room floor, so to speak.
With that in mind, InGoal Premium will try to bring our subscribers a little deeper into some of those conversations and details by publishing the extended conversations.
In the case of this week’s Unmasked column on how NHL goaltender’s use self-talk, we’ve actually already done that: The section on Vancouver Canucks prospect Michael DiPietro changing up the messages inside the cuff of his blocker actually comes from a more detailed article looking at the specific meanings and goals behind each of the messages he’s used that ran in full on InGoal Premium almost three months ago.
