Last week we introduced you to Washington Capitals goaltending coach Scott Murray and the start of a six-part series on the modern mechanics of tracking he learned from consultant Lyle Mast, and the various ways he has implemented it with goalies in the NHL.

This tracking series was part of Murray’s presentation at the WHL / Hockey Canada Goaltending Symposium presented by InGoal Magazine earlier this summer, a partnership that allows us to bring it to our Premium Members now. We began last week with a look at the way Murray used tracking with Vezina Trophy winner Braden Holtby to improve a specific aspect of his game — in that case a lack of success on lateral plays — on the path to winning the Stanley Cup in 2018, including a look at before-and-after video and statistics and some of the drills involved.

If that was a situational application of these new tracking mechanics, Part 2 this week involves a more foundational approach with goalie Pheonix Copley, the Caps backup that season. Like the Holtby example in Part 1, Murray includes video breakdowns and statistical evidence:
