When InGoal Magazine was asked to help moderate a couple of panel discussions at the 2021 Virtual Goaltending Coach Certification Seminar put on by Hockey Canada this summer, the immediate answer was yes. Being involved, even in this small way, in a program designed to increase the number of qualified goalie coaches at every level is an honor in itself.

When Hockey Canada offered to let InGoal share the content we were involved in with our Premium Audience, it was an even bigger no-brainer to say yes. And when future Hall of Famer Roberto Luongo asked to turn his Keynote Address to the participants into a Q+A hosted by InGoal, we were both honored and ecstatic, because now we get to share it with you.

The interview is a little more than an hour and loaded with insights from Luongo, who retired in 2019 as one of only three goalies to play more than 1,000 games and is currently fourth on the all-time win list with 489, that will benefit every goalie, goalie coach and goalie parent.

Now working for the Florida Panthers overseeing their goaltending excellence department, and fresh off winning gold as Canada’s General Manager at the World Championships when he did this interview, Luongo talks about everything from gear to technique to social media and mindset.
