Pro Drills with Devon Levi

Key Takeaways
  • The Spin Drill trains goalies to react to a shot immediately after a 180-degree turn, simulating a one-timer with little time to locate the puck.
  • Coach Marco Raimondo cues the spin by either calling out or banging his stick, adding an unpredictable auditory element to the drill.
  • Devon Levi emphasizes that the drill replicates real-game situations where a goalie lacks time to find 'quiet eye' focus or settle into their stance.
  • A key technical focus is preventing the feet from going wide during the spin — goalies must consciously keep feet underneath the body and let the head lead the movement.
  • Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Jet Greeves also performed the Spin Drill, with Raimondo framing it around developing instincts, sensing, and using multiple senses to read the game.

They call it the “Spin Drill” and it starts with Levi facing the net and Raimondo in the middle with a puck he then passes to a shooter on one side or the other before either calling out or banging his stick, which is the signal for Levi to spin around and find a puck that quickly on its way:
