James Wendland has become something of a staple here at InGoal Magazine when it comes to helping goalies right up to the NHL keep their bodies aligned, healthy and moving in a way that helps them stop more pucks without getting hurt.
Wendland debuted with his can’t miss video 5 Damn Things to Improve Goalie Hip Health, sharing a series of active resistance stretches/exercises designed to help de-tension the hip socket that quickly became a must-do before ice time for goalies, again right up to the NHL. He has since followed that up 5 Damn Things to Improve Goalie Feet and better connecting the brain to those muscles and sensors because that’s the mechanism through which we control our edges, and has since shared exercises on both a Rocker Board and a Bosu Ball to help build on those connections and improve balance
Today we are sharing a series of six exercises designed to continue building on those key connections while also building stronger, healthier, more stable hips.
Filmed during Kristen Campbell’s KC Elite Goaltending Camp last summer, these exercises use a Fitter First Rocker Board, a Bosu Ball and an exercises ball for both this 6-drill warm-up series and the Gaze Stability“ ball work” that is teased (and will follow here next week).
