Dustin Wolf is coming off an impressive first full season in the NHL, earning a finalist nod for Rookie of the Year, and keeping a Calgary Flames team that was supposed to be rebuilding in the playoff race until the final days of the regular season.

Shortly before being rewarded with a seven-year, $52.5 million contract extension, Wolf was kind enough to sit down with InGoal Magazine as he prepares for his second full NHL season, spending close to an hour breaking down film for his second Pro Reads session. We’re excited to share more of his insightful analysis.

THE SEQUENCE

After an in-zone power play breakdown in his first session back, this time Wolf is facing an odd-man rush against the Chicago Blackhawks and Connor Bedard:

Looking at Bedard in the freeze frame above — and keeping in mind it is Bedard — do you see him as a shot threat? How you answered that might affect how you answer this next question: What do you think of Wolf’s positioning at this point?

It’s okay to disagree with where he’s at — as we said in his debut, Wolf is quick to point out his own mistakes in these sessions — but the key is understanding why.

THE SAVE

Watch the save and replays below now and ask yourself the same questions.

Did you change your answer to the first question at all? Beyond that initial depth discussion, what did you like – or not — about the way Wolf came across?

Once that pass is made by Bedard, what information are you looking for? What are you looking at as you come across? What did you notice about how Wolf moved?

Lastly, are you trying to get back to the in this instance, or aiming above it? Why?

THE PRO READ

Now let’s hear from Wolf’s thoughts on why he played it this way:
