Now Playing: PWHL Goalie Match, and Every PWHL Goaltender Is in the Deck
Last month we opened Goalie Games with Goalie Solitaire, a deck dealt from the NHL’s top 52 goaltenders. We said a new game would land every month. Here is number two, and it belongs to the PWHL.
PWHL Goalie Match is the memory game you already know. Flip two cards, find the pair, clear the board. The difference is the deck: every card is a PWHL goaltender, in her own team’s colors.
Members are playing it first. It is open to InGoal members now, and to everyone on August 18.
Twenty-four goaltenders, eight teams
The deck pulls from all eight PWHL clubs, Boston through Vancouver, and it runs on the same roster data behind our PWHL goaltender directory, so it stays current as the league does.
Every deal samples the deck fresh, which means the faces change from board to board. You will start recognizing them faster than you expect, and that is rather the point.
Learn the league while you play
Every goaltender in the deck has a profile waiting in our PWHL goaltender directory when you want the stats behind the face.
And one that only members can play
There is a second version of this deck, and it is harder. Goalie Partners deals the same PWHL goaltenders, but a match isn’t the same goalie twice — it’s the two who share a crease. Find both halves of a real tandem, eight teams a board.
The cards won’t help you: the team is hidden until you’ve found the pair, so it can’t be solved by reading the abbreviations. You either know who plays together or you remember where you saw them. It is the difference between recognising a face and knowing the league.
Goalie Partners is members-only, and it stays that way. Both games keep score to your account, and the best runs land on the leaderboards.
