Dustin Wolf is one of the best young goalies in the game and an informative delight in these video breakdowns, so InGoal is going back to the Calgary Flames star for the fourth time in the past six weeks for another Pro Reads as we continue to work through remaining sessions before gathering new collections for 2026-27.

THE SEQUENCE

In his last Pro Reads, Wolf talked about perhaps committing a bit too soon to his knees and a reverse-VH with the puck behind the net. It’s worth reviewing before taking a look at this play behind the net against the Carolina Hurricanes:

Dustin Wolf holds his feet at the post as a Carolina Hurricanes player carries the puck below the goal line to his right

As you can see in the freeze frame above, the puck is below the goal line but this time Wolf is holding his feet rather than committing to his knees as the player cuts behind the net on his right. What factors do you think go into Wolf being able to hold his feet more confidently on this play than he did in the last Pro Reads?

THE SAVE

Now watch the save and ask yourself the same question – but do it for both times the puck goes behind the net (it happens one other time before the final play pictured above). See how soon you can identify the primary scoring threat.

What did you make of the way Wolf played this by holding his edges?

Can you see any downside in his choice to stay on his feet?

What was the benefit?

THE PRO READ

Now let’s hear from Wolf and get his thoughts on how he managed this play:
