Amanda Thiele grew up in Milford, Michigan, and represented the United States at the 2020 U-18 IIHF World Championships in Slovakia, where she won a gold medal.

Her college career at Ohio State University spanned four seasons and 102 games, during which she accumulated 1,699 saves over more than 5,585 minutes of play. She posted a career record of 74-16-3-14 with a .914 save percentage. In her senior season, she set a program record for single-season wins with 20, and added four shutouts — including a 5-0 victory over Wisconsin in January 2023 and a 3-0 shutout of Northeastern in the Frozen Four semifinals that March. She also recorded five assists across her college career.

One of the more visible moments of her final collegiate season came on January 4, 2025, during Ohio State's outdoor game at Wrigley Field, where she made 31 saves and turned aside all seven Wisconsin attempts in a shootout, helping the Buckeyes secure an extra point in the WCHA standings.

Thiele received academic recognition throughout her time at Ohio State, earning OSU Scholar Athlete honors in 2021, 2022, and 2023, along with Academic All-Big Ten, WCHA All-Academic Team, WCHA Scholar-Athlete, and AHCA All-American Scholar distinctions. On the ice, she was named WCHA Goaltender of the Month for February 2022 and was placed on the HCA Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year Watchlist in 2022, and appeared on the WCHA Final Faceoff All-Tournament Team.

Boston selected her in the sixth round, 42nd overall, in the 2025 PWHL Draft. She signed a one-year contract with the Fleet through the 2025-26 season following training camp.
