Amanda Thiele grew up in Milford, Michigan, and represented the United States at the 2020 U-18 IIHF World Championships in Slovakia, winning a gold medal before her college career had even fully taken shape.

At Ohio State, Thiele appeared in 102 games across four seasons, logging 5,585:42 minutes in net and finishing with a .914 save percentage and 1,699 saves. Her record over that span stood at 74-16-3-14. During her senior season she set an Ohio State program record for single-season wins, posting 20, and recorded four shutouts — including a 5-0 win over Wisconsin in January 2023 and a 3-0 shutout of Northeastern in the Frozen Four semifinals that March. She was named to the WCHA Final Faceoff All-Tournament Team and earned WCHA Goaltender of the Month honors in February 2022. Her academic record was equally consistent: she was named an OSU Scholar Athlete in 2021, 2022, and 2023, earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in 2022 and 2023, and appeared on the WCHA All-Academic Team and WCHA Scholar-Athlete list in both of those years, along with AHCA All-American Scholar honors in 2021.

On January 4, 2025, Thiele made 31 saves and stopped all seven Wisconsin shootout attempts during Ohio State's outdoor game at Wrigley Field, helping the Buckeyes earn an extra point in the WCHA standings. She also recorded five assists across her collegiate career.

Boston selected Thiele in the sixth round, 42nd overall, in the 2025 PWHL Draft. She signed a one-year contract with the Fleet following training camp, covering the 2025-26 season.
