Anthony Stolarz was born on January 20, 1994, in Edison, New Jersey β and when he made his NHL debut with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2016-17, he became the first goaltender from New Jersey to play in the league. That distinction came at the end of a winding road that took him from junior hockey in the New Jersey Devils organization through a brief stint at the University of Nebraska Omaha, a move to the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, and eventually to the Flyers' second-round selection β 45th overall β in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Standing 6'6" and weighing 248 pounds, the left-catching Stolarz is one of the larger netminders in the game.
His path to the NHL included time with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League and seasons developing with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the Flyers' AHL affiliate. When he finally broke into Philadelphia's lineup in 2016-17, he appeared in seven games, going 2-1 with a 2.07 goals-against average, a .928 save percentage, and one shutout β a strong opening chapter in what would become an NHL career defined by perseverance and movement.
In February 2019, the Flyers traded Stolarz to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for goaltender Cam Talbot. His six-game stint in Edmonton that season β posting a 3.77 GAA and .897 save percentage β marked the end of his time there, and he entered free agency. He signed with the Anaheim Ducks on a two-year contract, but the 2019-20 season was largely spent with the AHL's San Diego Gulls; he appeared in only one game with Anaheim before the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When NHL play resumed, he posted a 2.04 GAA and .944 save percentage in that single appearance.
Stolarz returned to Anaheim for the 2020-21 season, logging eight games with a 2.20 GAA, a .926 save percentage, and one shutout β including his first NHL win in over two years on March 28, 2021. That momentum carried into 2021-22, when he played 28 games for the Ducks, going 12-8 with a 2.67 GAA, a .917 save percentage, and three shutouts. The following 2022-23 season in Anaheim brought a more difficult stretch: 19 games, a 5-6 record, a 3.73 GAA, and a .899 save percentage. It was during the Anaheim years that InGoal Magazine had Stolarz on InGoal Radio, in what was described at the time as his first appearance on the podcast, to discuss his career and development [1]. InGoal Magazine has covered Anthony Stolarz in one podcast appearance.
After four seasons with the Ducks, Stolarz signed with the Florida Panthers ahead of 2023-24. That season represented a significant moment in his career: he appeared in 27 games, went 16-7, posted a 2.03 GAA and a .925 save percentage with two shutouts, and won the Stanley Cup with Florida in 2024.
He carried that form into 2024-25 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, setting career bests across a full season: 34 games, a 21-8 record, a 2.14 GAA, a .926 save percentage, and four shutouts. Those numbers represent his most appearances in a single NHL season and his highest win total.
In 2025-26, Stolarz is in his second year with Toronto, appearing in 26 games with a 10-10-3 record, a 3.28 GAA, and an .893 save percentage through the current campaign. Across 168 career NHL regular-season games, he holds a record of 74-49-15 with a 2.66 GAA, a .914 save percentage, and 12 shutouts.
