Born in Gävle, Sweden, on September 19, 1995, Jonas Johansson was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the third round — first pick of that round — of the 2014 NHL Draft. Standing 6'5" and weighing 220 pounds, the left-catching goaltender spent several seasons developing before making his NHL debut with Buffalo in 2019-20, appearing in six games and posting a 2.94 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage with one win.
His path through the league has taken him across several organizations. After that initial cup of coffee with the Sabres, Johansson moved to the Colorado Avalanche, where he appeared in eight games during the shortened 2020-21 season, going 5-1 with a 2.06 GAA, a .913 save percentage, and one shutout. A two-game stint with the Florida Panthers in 2021-22 produced a pair of losses, but Johansson returned to Colorado the following year and went 2-0 in three appearances with a 2.10 GAA and a .932 save percentage in 2022-23.
Tampa Bay became his next — and most extended — destination. Johansson appeared in 26 games for the Lightning in 2023-24, recording 12 wins, seven losses, a 3.37 GAA, a .890 save percentage, and two shutouts. The 2024-25 season brought 19 appearances, a 9-6 record, a 3.13 GAA, a .895 save percentage, and one shutout — the best single-season save percentage of his Lightning tenure to that point. Through 25 games of 2025-26, he carries an 11-10-2 record with a 3.29 GAA and a .884 save percentage while wearing jersey number 31 for Tampa Bay.
Across 105 NHL regular-season games, Johansson holds a career record of 43 wins, 36 losses, and 14 overtime losses, with a 3.29 GAA, an .889 save percentage, and four shutouts over 5,784 minutes and 17 seconds of NHL ice time.
