Petr Mrazek was born in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on February 14, 1992, and was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the fifth round, 141st overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. What followed was a career that has now stretched across more than a decade, six NHL organizations, and 438 regular-season games.
Mrazek made his NHL debut with Detroit, appearing in two games during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season and going 1-1 with a 2.01 GAA and a .922 save percentage. His first extended look came the following year, when he went 2-4 in nine appearances but posted a 1.74 GAA and a .927 save percentage alongside two shutouts — a glimpse of what Detroit's organization had drafted. By 2014-15, he was a regular contributor, going 16-9 in 29 games with a 2.38 GAA, a .918 save percentage, and three shutouts.
His most productive season in a Red Wings uniform came in 2015-16, when Mrazek appeared in 54 games, went 27-16, posted a 2.33 GAA, a .921 save percentage, and four shutouts — career-best marks across several categories at that point. The 2016-17 season brought 50 appearances and an 18-21 record, after which Detroit traded him to the Philadelphia Flyers. His time in Philadelphia was brief; he made 17 appearances in 2017-18, going 6-6 with a 3.22 GAA and .891 save percentage and one shutout.
The move that reshaped his career came when he joined the Carolina Hurricanes. Over three seasons in Raleigh, Mrazek put together some of the most consistent numbers of his career. In 2018-19, across 40 games, he went 23-14 with a 2.39 GAA, a .914 save percentage, and four shutouts. The following season he appeared in 40 games again, going 21-16 with a 2.69 GAA and a .905 save percentage, adding three more shutouts. The abbreviated 2020-21 season was his best by GAA: in 12 games he went 6-2, posted a 2.06 GAA, a .923 save percentage, and three shutouts.
Mrazek then signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the 2021-22 campaign was curtailed by injury; he appeared in 20 games, going 12-6 with a 3.34 GAA and a .888 save percentage. He moved on to the Chicago Blackhawks, where he spent two seasons. In 2022-23 he went 10-22 in 39 games. In 2023-24 he was one of the workhorses of a rebuilding roster, appearing in 56 games — the most of his career — and going 18-31 with a 3.05 GAA and a .908 save percentage and one shutout.
A brief return to Detroit followed; in five games with the Red Wings in 2024-25, he went 2-2 with a 2.49 GAA, a .902 save percentage, and one shutout. He then signed with the Anaheim Ducks, and through the early portion of the 2025-26 season he has appeared in 10 games, going 3-5 with a 4.07 GAA and a .858 save percentage.
Across his NHL career, Mrazek has accumulated 183 wins, 26 shutouts, a career GAA of 2.87, and a career save percentage of .905 over 438 games and more than 24,400 minutes of ice time. At 34, he continues to log time in the NHL with his seventh franchise.
