Born in Penza, Russia, on June 25, 1999, Pyotr Kochetkov entered the 2019 NHL Draft ranked as the top eligible international goaltender and was selected 36th overall — fifth in the second round — by the Carolina Hurricanes. The 6'3", 196-pound left-catching netminder has remained a Hurricane ever since, working his way from prospect to the organization's starting crease over the course of four NHL seasons.
Kochetkov made his NHL debut with Carolina in 2021-22, appearing in three games and going 3-0 with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. The following season he stepped into a larger role, playing 24 games and finishing 12-7 with a 2.44 GAA, a .909 save percentage, and four shutouts — matching that shutout total again in 2023-24.
The 2023-24 campaign represented a statistical high point through his first several seasons: in 42 appearances, Kochetkov went 23-13 with a 2.33 GAA and a .911 save percentage, along with four shutouts. He took on his heaviest workload to date in 2024-25, starting 47 games and finishing 27-16 with a 2.60 GAA and a .898 save percentage, adding two more shutouts.
Through the start of the 2025-26 season, Kochetkov carries a career NHL record of 71 wins, 38 losses, and 12 overtime losses across 125 games, with a 2.46 goals-against average, a .905 save percentage, and 11 shutouts over 7,204:52 minutes of ice time. He won the Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2026.
