Tobias Trejbal is a goaltender taken by the Calgary Flames in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2026 NHL Draft — the first goaltender off the board in his class. Calgary traded up for him, sending picks 51 and 68 to Carolina, and in doing so reunited him with Youngstown teammate Jack Hextall, whom the Flames had drafted 30th the night before. The two had bet on who would go first; Hextall won.
Trejbal switched from defenseman to goaltender at age 10 to be like fellow right-handed Czech Pavel Francouz, and he treats the rare right catch as an edge against shooters drilled to beat lefties. In his lone USHL season the Most, Czechia native swept the league's honors — Goaltender of the Year (voted by the GMs), First All-Star and All-Rookie teams — going 30-9-3 with a 2.12 goals-against average (best in the USHL), a .916 save percentage and three shutouts, and backstopping Youngstown to the Anderson Cup.
Coach Ryan Ward, speaking to NHL.com, credited his "unflappability... when he gets scored on, it's next-puck mentality." A late injury call-up to the All-American Game, Trejbal stopped all 19 shots he faced. He is committed to the University of Massachusetts.
