“Vizual Edge has added a quality element to my preparation as a goaltender. I use the game day drills every game before heading to the rink. Itβs a combination of recognition, reaction and focus that activates my brain and eyes to feel ready for whatβs to come.β β Jordan Binnington

Eric Comrie returns for his second Pro Reads sessions, and as anyone who tuned in for his insightful video breakdown debut last month already knows, these will quickly become canβt miss for a goalie who has bounced around the NHL a lot over the past two seasons.
The clips all come from Comrieβs season debut with the New Jersey Devils on Jan 31, a game in which he stopped 30 of 33 for a 4-3 win shortly before being reclaimed off waivers for the third time in the past three seasons by the Winnipeg Jets. As Comrie showed in that game, heβs ready for the NHL, and youβll understand why after seeing him analyze his own play again.
βThe Scenario
Comrie is facing a 3-on-2 rush as the Sabres gain the blue line with Jack Eichel carrying the puck down the right wing and Taylor Hall streaking down the opposite side.
Whatβs the first thing you look for as a goalie as this rush approaches through the neutral zone?
You can compare your answer to the one Comrie gives in his Pro Read below, but it becomes important as this play continues and becomes more of a 2-on-1, with Hall wide open:
In less than a second of real time, this play has changed completely. As Devils defenseman PK Subban cuts across to attack the new puck carrier, Victor Olofsson, in the middle, what factors become increasingly important? Who is now the most dangerous player on the ice?
Β THE SAVE
Now letβs take a look at the entire play to see what ends up happening.
Still ahead in this article:
Whether Comrie's knee-slide across on that play was the right read β or a half-second gamble he almost didn't survive β comes down to one question about the streaking winger, and it's in the next paragraph.
