THE BEST WAY FOR A GOALIE TO PREDICT THE FUTURE IS TO PICTURE IT
- Visualize your destination as a goalie the way a plane locks in its flight path before takeoff — with complete clarity and certainty.
- Goalies who lack a clear mental picture of their goals experience unnecessary uncertainty, much like being on a plane with no known destination.
- Pete Fry, drafted by the New Jersey Devils after playing in the WHL, applies this visualization framework with goalies from minor hockey to the professional level.
- Your self-image acts as a guiding system — you will naturally move toward whatever picture of yourself you consistently hold in your mind.
- Start building mental skills intentionally by defining a specific, vivid goal image rather than leaving your development to chance.

The following is based on a chapter from Fry’s Goalie Mindset Power
“You will walk (or butterfly slide) into the picture you hold of yourself”
The best way to for a goalie to predict the future is to picture it.
What do I mean by the best way for you to predict the future is to picture it?
A great example is a plane.
When a plane flies from Vancouver to Los Angeles, before it even takes off it has its route marked to the exact location it will land. That plane knows before it even takes off exactly where it’s going to end up. It knows its destination. It has a very clear picture.
Would you go on a plane without knowing where the plane was going?
