Collin Delia is coming off his first season with the Vancouver Canucks, one filled with changes to his game that took time — and lots of work — to became instinctual, a process he talked in detail about just over one month ago in his second appearance on the InGoal Radio Podcast.
After recording that interview, Delia also took some time to review video from this past season, breaking down his decision-making process for Pro Reads. This is the second of many.
THE SEQUENCE
This time Delia is facing a loaded Colorado Avalanche power play that has just worked the puck low-to-high to defenseman Cale Makar, who has time to skate downhill with a shooting lane through a layered screen, as well as pass options on either side.
Given that, what do you make of Delia’s positioning above? Any surprise to see him at the edge of his crease and looking short side with Rantanen to his left, especially since both positional decisions appear to increase the distance he’d have to travel to get on angle with Rantanen?
THE SAVE
Ask yourself those same questions as you watch the entire sequence – first after watching it from the camera angle in the stands, and again on the replay from behind the net:
Did anything else stand out about how he managed that push across after the pass, especially the final replay with the close up of Delia coming across? (Hint: Watch his left skate)
