Joey Daccord has been busy since InGoal Magazine connected with him on the eve of training camp for both a can’t miss Podcast Episode and an informative Pro Reads session, signing a five-year contract extension with the Seattle Kraken shortly after.
Daccord is no stranger to Pro Reads, having done an extended sit down during his time with the Ottawa Senators way back in 2021, and our follow-up with the insightful puck-stopper already produced a memorable and informative first Pro Reads in Kraken colors, but almost a month has passed so we figured it was time to check back in on the Seattle stopper.
THE SEQUENCE
We are sticking with Daccord’s stellar Winter Classic shutout against the Vegas Golden Knights for a second straight video session, this time focusing on some in-zone play:
As this puck is circled around the net from Dacccord’s left to right, what do you make of his decision to come across into an RVH on his right post? Can you see the reasons for it?
The puck carrier (Paul Cotter) continues up the zone and around to the other side before spinning to his forehand along the right boards in this second screencap.
At this point, what factors jump out to you? Who are the most dangerous threats for Daccord to consider? If that puck goes across to the ice to a wide-open Alex Martinez on the left point, are you thinking side or skate across as a goalie?
THE SAVE
Now watch it play out and ask yourself the same questions as it does?
Can you see why Daccord chose to slide across rather than beat that pass on his feet?
What benefits can you see in choosing that rather than pushing across on his feet?
Any thoughts on the save execution and what he does well here?
