Born in Munich, Germany on December 22, 2000, Nico Daws brings an uncommon origin story to the crease of the New Jersey Devils organization. The 6'4", 205-pound left-catching goaltender was selected 84th overall β third round, 22nd pick β by New Jersey in the 2020 NHL Draft, beginning a path from Europe to one of the NHL's most storied markets.
Daws made his NHL debut with the Devils in the 2021-22 season, appearing in 25 games and posting a record of 10-11 with a 3.11 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage. It was a substantial workload for a goaltender stepping into the league, and it established him as a presence in the Devils' plans.
The 2022-23 season did not produce NHL appearances reflected in the data, suggesting time spent in the AHL with the Utica Comets, the Devils' primary affiliate. He returned to the NHL in 2023-24 with 21 games, going 9-11 with a 3.15 GAA and .894 save percentage.
His 2024-25 campaign produced the sharpest numbers of his NHL career to that point: in 6 appearances, Daws went 3-1 with a 1.60 GAA, a .939 save percentage, and his first NHL shutout. Through the early portion of the 2025-26 season, he has appeared in 3 games, going 2-1 with a 2.62 GAA and a .908 save percentage.
Across his NHL career, Daws has totaled 55 games played, 24 wins, 24 losses, 1 overtime loss, a 2.96 GAA, a .898 save percentage, and 1 shutout. He wears number 50 for New Jersey.
