Pro Drills: Carey Price Crease Movement Tips: lead with head/hands

The longer we watch Carey Price continue to succeed in these Stanley Cup Playoffs, the more we are reminded of the important role that movement foundations play in the Montreal Canadiens Star’s long-standing status as one of the NHL’s best goaltenders.

We mentioned it in a recent Pro Drills article in which Price shared stick positioning tips against the post: the same advice we’ve seen him share with young goalies at the Eli Wilson Goaltending Day with Price summer camps applies to how he moves and plays on hockey’s biggest stage now.

As Price and Carter Hart once shared in an old article on the importance of crease movement patterns, those movements around the crease may seem boring at times but they really do form the foundation of their success. So as tempting as it might be to rush through them before you get to the “fun” parts of practice, it’s important to make sure you are performing those crease movements patterns properly, paying attention to the fine details of good skating.
