Brian Elliott went undrafted in the OHL before being selected in the NHL Draft out of tier-2 junior hockey after just one season. At the University of Wisconsin, Elliott deliberately avoided squaring to the puck or shooter — a style he later had to completely reinvent as a pro. He went on to play in NHL All-Star Games and became one of only 76 goalies in NHL history to play 500 games.
