In our effort to comfort our kids after tough games we may be upsetting them more. As we greet them in the lobby after the game we often break out the old “good game” and even if we mean it – they may not appreciate it.
So what can you say?
We knock around a few ideas this week of how we have approached it.
As always – hit us up at [email protected] with your thoughts.

I tend to go with, “I love you” and “How are you feeling?”
My college lacrosse goalie son had a tough one earlier this season where he got pulled after the first quarter because his team was down 6-0. It was less about him as it was the coach pulling the goalie to try and wake the team up. But, he hadn’t had his best start and was down after the game. I focused on how his head coach told us that he was supportive on the sideline to the goalie that went in and that he expected my son to earn the starting job back.
Fast forward to last night, I got the text every goalie parent wants the night before a playoff game. It was only one word long, but it said so much.
“Starting”
Great stuff James! I hope it went well for him.
