Matt Murray was not selected in the NHL Draft — he signed with the Dallas Stars as an undrafted free agent in 2022. The left-catching goaltender from St. Albert, Alberta, stands 6'1" and weighs 196 pounds, and his path to the NHL ran through the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Spruce Grove Saints, the United States Hockey League with the Fargo Force, and NCAA collegiate hockey with the UMass Minutemen.
Murray's NHL career record spans five games across three seasons. He made his first appearances with Dallas in 2022-23, going 1-2 with a 3.39 goals-against average and an .844 save percentage over three games. The following season, 2023-24, he appeared in one game for the Stars and stopped every shot he faced, posting a shutout with a 0.00 GAA and a 1.000 save percentage — the lone shutout of his NHL career to date.
