A common question this time of year comes from Parents who are worried that their goalies aren’t motivated to work hard. That might mean on the ice while often they are referring to the drive to train away from the rink.
We have some thoughts this week to share about this common concern. While it’s true that ultimately it has to come from within, there are some things that we as parents can do to help our kids learn the joy of hard work.

In general, if the game is fun, kids will fall in love with the game. And if they love the game, they will work hard at it.
My college age son has a song he really likes that many might not. It is “Dreams & Nightmares” by Meek Mill. It has one line that really speaks to this topic:
It was time to marry the game and I said, “Yeah, I do”
You only marry what, or who, you love.
Foster and cultivate a love for the game, the love of the process of improvement, and the love of the work. And being an example is the biggest thing when it comes to this. If we are not modeling the love of things and the love of the work, our words about the importance of hard work will ring hollow.
Very well said James! Thanks for sharing.
