NHLDaccord stops two breakaways as the Kraken beat the Flames in overtime
Joey Daccord shut down two Calgary breakaways in the third period, plus a second-period chance he stopped while lying on his back, and Seattle won 2-1 when Matty Beniers scored 55 seconds into overtime on Wednesday. Daccord made 25 saves on 26 shots in the win. In the third period Martin Pospisil hit him from behind as he played the puck behind his own net, and Pospisil took a goalie interference penalty. Daccord took a few moments to get up and finished the game. “Honestly, I’ve been pushing myself to come up with the big save when the team needs it,” he said. Coach Lane Lambert said Daccord “had an outstanding game,” called the win important “above all else” for his goalie’s confidence, and credited goaltending coach Colin Zulianello for the work the two have put in (Kraken.com).
On InGoal: Zulianello talked about how he coaches the Kraken goalies on InGoal Radio Episode 303 and showed one of his drills in Pro Drills with Colin Zulianello. Also: Joey Daccord’s Pro Reads.
NHLPostava is back with Detroit a day after his AHL award
The Red Wings recalled Michal Postava from Grand Rapids under emergency conditions on Wednesday, one day after the AHL named him its goaltender of the month (our Nov. 4 edition). He is 5-0 with a .955 save percentage for the Griffins this season. In October he also played his first NHL game, in relief in Vancouver on Oct. 22, and won his first NHL start four days later, 4-3 in a shootout in Edmonton (Griffins).
John Gibson left Detroit’s 4-2 loss in Tampa on Tuesday after the first period with a lower-body injury, and Daniil Tarasov made 12 saves the rest of the way. Coach Todd McLellan had no update on Gibson but said Tarasov will get more starts. “Daniil made some good saves when he went in and we made a game of it,” McLellan said (NHL.com).
On InGoal: Postava’s first NHL win, with stops on McDavid and Draisaitl, was in our Oct. 27 edition.

- Samuel Ersson made 23 saves as Ottawa came from behind to win 2-1 in Buffalo on Michael Amadio’s late goal, the last game of a five-game road trip. He started again with Linus Ullmark, who was on the ice for the optional skate but missed a fifth straight game with a lower-body injury (TSN). “We played a great road game tonight,” Ersson told TSN 1200.

CollegeNCAA shutout leader Ève Gascon heads October's goalies of the month
Minnesota Duluth senior Ève Gascon is the WCHA’s goaltender of the month, announced Tuesday. She has four shutouts in five games this season, the most in the NCAA, and her .982 save percentage and 0.40 goals-against average are both the best in the conference. It is the third monthly award of her career, after December 2024 and February 2026 (WCHA). Her Oct. 17 shutout at Bemidji State made her UMD’s career leader, which we covered in our Oct. 17 edition, and she now has 25. She won the award while away with Canada, which opens the Women’s World Championship in Denmark this week. It is the Mascouche, Quebec native’s second Worlds (UMD Athletics).
Before she left, Gascon spoke with Giselle Velazquez of The Ice Garden about her summer, the Bulldogs, and Worlds. Asked who will take the shutout record from her, she named UMD freshman Marilou Grenier: “I looked at Lou, because I think she’s gonna be the next one to get it.” As for the record itself: “It’s fun, the record, but I was more happy with the wins.” Read: Ève Gascon broke UMD’s shutout record. Now she’s eyeing the World Championship with Canada (The Ice Garden).

- Michigan Tech’s Owen Bartoszkiewicz is the CCHA’s goaltender of the month for October. His 228 saves and one shutout, 30 saves against Alaska on Oct. 16, both led the conference, and he finished the month at 1.76 and .942. JuniorRoyden Smith, 17, stops 44 in Ottawa, Liam Karbowski, 17, earns his first OHL shutout
Kingston rookie Royden Smith made 44 saves, 16 of them in each of the last two periods, and the Frontenacs won 3-1 at TD Place in the 67’s school-day game in front of 7,108 people. The game stayed tied 1-1 until Alex McLean scored on the power play with 38 seconds left, and Smith was named the first star (OHL game report). The 6-foot-5 Torontonian, a fifth-round pick of Kingston in the 2025 OHL draft, has twice been the league’s rookie of the week this season (Frontenacs). His first OHL shutout was in our Nov. 2 edition.

HistoryTurk Broda plays his first NHL game, 90 years ago today
On this day in 1936, Turk Broda made his NHL debut in Toronto’s season opener at Maple Leaf Gardens, and lost 3-1 to the Detroit Red Wings, the team that had sold his contract to the Maple Leafs that spring (Wikipedia). By InGoal’s arithmetic from the NHL’s game record (shots weren’t an official statistic then), he made 19 saves on 22 shots, while Normie Smith stopped 28 of 29 at the other end. The Leafs went with the 22-year-old rookie over George Hainsworth, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner, and from that night until he joined the army, Broda missed only four of Toronto’s 338 regular-season games. Broda played his whole NHL career in Toronto, 14 seasons between 1936 and 1952 (he missed two full seasons and most of a third serving in the Canadian Army during the Second World War), won the Stanley Cup five times and the Vezina Trophy twice, and in December 1950 became the first NHL goalie to reach 300 wins. He went into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1967 (Wikipedia).
