NHL: Sergei Bobrovsky (Toronto Maple Leafs), Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers), Tristan Jarry (Edmonton Oilers), Dustin Wolf (Calgary Flames), Daniil Tarasov (Detroit Red Wings)

ECHL: Jake Sibell (Tulsa Oilers)

NHLBobrovsky can pass Lundqvist for the most wins by a goalie born outside North America

Sergei Bobrovsky and Henrik Lundqvist share sixth place on the NHL’s all-time list with 459 regular-season wins, and Toronto is expected to start Bobrovsky on Tuesday at Scotiabank Arena against the Utah Mammoth. A win would put the goalie from Novokuznetsk, Russia, sixth on his own and make him the winningest goalie in league history born outside North America. Former Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin put him in small company: “He’s played at the level of very few European goalies.” Auston Matthews called him “such a true professional” and added, “I just can’t say enough good things about him” (NHL.com).

By InGoal’s count from the NHL’s career stats, Bobrovsky has got there 71 games sooner: his 459 wins have come in 816 regular-season games, and Lundqvist finished his career with 459 in 887. Every goalie above them was born in Canada: Martin Brodeur (691), Marc-André Fleury (575), Patrick Roy (551), Roberto Luongo (489), and Ed Belfour (484).

On InGoal: Our Oct. 20 edition had him closing in on Lundqvist, and Bobrovsky’s unique stick grip and how it helps his blocker.

CoachesHockey Canada hires Dustin Schwartz as its head of goaltending

Dustin Schwartz, the Edmonton Oilers’ goaltending coach from 2015-16 through 2024-25, is Hockey Canada’s new head of goaltending. The job takes in the evaluation, selection, mentoring, and development of Canada’s national-team goalies, the country’s grassroots goaltending development, and new goaltending camps and symposiums. From 2027 he will also coach the goalies on some of Canada’s national teams. “It is an honour to be hired by Hockey Canada,” Schwartz said of what he called “this new goaltending program.” Scott Salmond, Hockey Canada’s senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations, said the organization was “thrilled to welcome him to Hockey Canada to oversee our goaltending department” (Daily Hive).

A trained teacher who played goal in the WHL and U SPORTS, Schwartz told InGoal Radio in 2020 that he builds his teaching around tracking, movement, and positioning, and he took part that year in a WHL and Hockey Canada goaltending symposium that InGoal presented.
